Oberlin Group: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Lightning Talks Webinar (February 2023)

Oberlin Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Lightning Talks Webinar (February 2023)
The Oberlin Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Ad Hoc Committee (ODAC) welcomes proposals for short, 5-minute/5-slide lightning talk presentations to be delivered, tentatively, the week of February 20th. The session will be held over Zoom.

The theme of the lightning talks will focus on disability/accessibility, with preference for presentations that touch on intersectionality with antiracism efforts. We are also particularly interested in hearing from those who are personally impacted by disability/accessibility limitations within libraries and librarianship (if they so choose to identify). Topics may include, but are not limited to, disability/accessibility with respect to library services, collections, and spaces; as well as policies, technologies, and practices that support equitable access to libraries and their resources. We welcome presentations from librarians, staff, managers, and students throughout libraries; as well as presentations that involve collaborations with other campus partners.

Proposals are due by 11:59 pm ET on Jan 22, 2023. Proposals will be reviewed by ODAC, and you will receive a response by Feb 1, 2023.  More info and registration here

The goal of ODAC is to promote education and action around antiracism and DEI initiatives within the library community. As such, we strive to provide inclusive programming that centers the voices of underrepresented groups who have been historically undermined, marginalized, and/or excluded and invites them to share their perspectives regarding libraries and DEI. We seek proposals from all types of libraries, library positions, and campus or community partners from the Oberlin community and beyond. We ask individuals to address how their proposed sessions, along with their personal and professional experiences, will help advance ODAC’s mission of promoting equity and inclusion in the library profession by broadening attendees’ perspectives and inspiring action.
