Library Lowdown Help

So What’s the Deal With This Site?

The Library Lowdown is intended to present important and useful staff news items in a cleaner and hopefully more findable format than the ocl-staff Google group. The old group is not going away just yet, but the idea is that the content typically posted there will now be posted here. So, look for important announcements, webinars, reports, events, staff recognitions, and other library-related news and information to appear. Better yet, be sure to contribute your own posts!

Please visit this site daily. There is currently no email digest of the posts, so staff have to check the site regularly. Perhaps you could set it as your browser homepage. If there is interest in an email digest, we can investigate options to make that happen.

Contributing New Items

Only Oberlin College Libraries staff can access the Library Lowdown, so it is not visible to the public or other Oberlin staff.

All Libraries staff can submit items to the Library Lowdown. Just visit the Contribute page and fill out the form. All fields are required except for File(s). Submissions post immediately after you click the button. If you find a mistake, or need a post deleted, email libsys@oberlin.edu.

You can use the text editor to add styling, lists, and links to your posts, and you can select multiple categories for your posts.

You can also attach multiple images and other files. After you choose your first file and upload it, click the “Add another file” link to select another file, repeat as necessary. Images and PDFs are preferred file types. Other file types will not display on the posts right away. If you submitted a file that is not showing up when you click on the post, email libsys@oberlin.edu. Be sure to include the filename with in the message.

Updates and Additions to the Library Lowdown

The Library Lowdown can evolve as our information needs change. If you would like to see other main menu and sidebar links added to the site, email libsys@oberlin.edu so we can consider how and where to add them.

Same goes for the categories listed on the Contribute form. Those categories allow staff to filter posts using the dropdown menu on the right sidebar, so we want them to be representative and useful. Send ideas for updates.
