Douglass Day Transcribe-a-thon 2022

Dear OCL staff,

Oberlin College Libraries will be celebrating Frederick Douglass’ birthday by participating in the Frederick Douglass Day Transcribe-a-thon event on Monday, Feb. 14, 2022. This year’s theme is “Black Women in the Colored Conventions.” We will focus on transcribing the records of the Colored Conventions, the nineteenth century’s longest campaign for Black civil rights. Together we can learn about the long history of Black activism — including the important roles of Black women in the conventions.

If you’ve never done any transcription before, it’s okay! No experience is necessary, and online tutorials are available to help. So are your librarians 🙂 Check out our Douglass Day guide for links to transcription tips and practice: https://libguides.oberlin.edu/douglassday.

OCL’s Douglass Day event will run (virtually via Zoom) from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 14, 2022. You can drop in for as long (or as little) as you are able.

We encourage you (and your students!) to join in this fun, crowdsourcing effort as we create and preserve Black history together during a collective day of love & action for Black history. For more information on Douglass Day, go to: https://douglassday.org/.

Please register for Oberlin College Libraries’ virtual Douglass Day event here: https://tiny.cc/OCLDouglassDay2022.

Love Week 2022

Dear everyone,

Ready for “Love Week” in the Libraries again this year? The week-long celebration (last held in 2020) was quite a success. It’s time to bring back this fun libraries-wide tradition!

This year, due to the end of Winter Term and the start of Spring semester, we propose doing this during the week of Feb. 21-25. Yes, it’s after Valentine’s Day, but it comes at a time when more students should be on campus for spring classes.

If you have ideas for what event(s) you’d like to do (and on which dates), please let us know by Monday, Feb. 14. Just use this form to get started, and we’ll be in touch to help iron out details! http://tiny.cc/HostEventsatOCL

Thank you!

P.S. — See calendars below for past Love Week events.
