Expect Activity!

As the date of the Oberlin Board meetings and the ribbon cutting for CELA (Oct. 6) draw near, expect a flurry of activity to finish up things on the lower level of Mudd.  Our Contemplation Garden is making progress and a huge bit of stone will be lowered by a crane soon.  Security gate should go up on October 4.  I  do not know when the elevators will be secured with swipe access–soon, I hope.  We will review all this at the October 5 Pan-L meeting–in Moffett. See you there!

Wireless Network System Work in Mudd Friday 7/29/22

Hi Everyone,

FYI…Lake Erie Electric will perform an upgrade of the wireless system in the Mudd Center tomorrow, Friday, 7/29/22, beginning at 7am. The work may continue into Saturday.

While not a complete overhaul, this work should result in better wireless coverage in the building. The work does not affect wired network connections and all is expected to be operational as usual on Monday when we return.

Trees and scrub on south side of Mudd building

Heads up that there will be some clean up of the vegetation on the south side of the Mudd Center this summer.  An arborist has identified at least one diseased tree (a pine, I think) that might need to come down.  Otherwise, they will be trimming branches back from the building and clearing the underbrush.  Facilities assures me that they are workig with an arborist on this. This is not related to SIP.

Regards,

Valerie

Camera updates in the Academic Commons, Azariah’s

Hi folks,
Two members of the construction team just informed me that they will be doing some installation work in the academic commons and Azariah’s starting today. All of the security cameras are being replaced with newer models that provide more coverage and higher quality images. They are replacing two cameras in Azzy’s and four in the commons. They expect the work will take most of today and some of tomorrow, with work on different sections happening early next week. They also told me they’d be receptive to moving and/or being interrupted if they are in the way, as long as we ask and give them time to pause the process. Thank you for your patience.

Sierra Upgrade Update

Hi Everyone,

Our Sierra update will begin at 3am next Thursday, April 7, 2022. The maintenance window is expected to be about 2 hours, so we should be up and running when we start the day.

Sierra and OBIS will be unavailable during the maintenance window.

Regarding the ongoing slowness with the system, please continue to send me any incidents you encounter. Describe what you were trying to do, what happened, and grab the Origin ID. I plan to hold off until our upgrade to place another ticket because that upgrade will include a complete server reboot. If we continue to have issues after next Thursday, I will submit another support ticket with a request for escalation.
