Metcalf Reception on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 @ 12:30-1:30– RSVP is NOW live – respond by May 17th

The annual Metcalf Reception will be held for our graduating student employees on May 24th,  2022, from 12:30-1:30. On the north Mudd Plaza, aka. the huge new sidewalk (formerly the tree) between Wilder & Mudd- under a tent.

Please RSVP to join us for lunch, an AVI catered Burrito Bowl (Chicken, Tofu, or Steak with optional: rice, lettuce, black bean and corn salsa, grilled peppers, onions, cheese, and sour cream toppings.) Please RSVP on the Evite by May 17th @ 4:00 p.m.

We hope you can join us to celebrate our graduating student employees!

Student supervisors: Please nudge your senior employees to fill out the student questionnaire and RSVP as soon as possible.

PSA (Public Service announcement): The Metcalf Committee tried to get a food truck from Steel Magnolia or Beautiful Flame (Lorenzos) but AVI evidently has the first refusal on all campus catering jobs over $500. Who knew- not any of us until this week.

Kudos Collection for Pan-Library Forum 5/4/22

It’s kudos time again, and we’re thinking ahead to Wednesday’s Pan-Library Forum. Library Council is once more collecting various news items, accolades, and celebration-worthy material to share, and make sure that everyone knows what great work is going on amongst the staff. Kudos can be given by anyone in the Libraries to anyone in the Libraries, so spread the love!

You can do so by filling out the Kudos Collection form for the next PLF, located here. You can submit as many times as you like for as many fellow colleagues as you like. The submissions are anonymous, but do require you to use your oberlin.edu email address.

Submissions will be shared with Valerie for the next PLF presentation, so please get yours in early if you can, for the sake of getting everything into the presentation.

Thanks for all you do!

Best,
Greg Solow
Library Council Chair

Reminder: All Libraries Staff please reply to the Library Council Transition survey by 4/27/22

This is a reminder that the Library Council Transition Committee invites your responses to the 2022-2024 Library Council membership survey.

We’re now soliciting nominations to replace Alonso Avila, Lindsey Felice, Tim Keller, Kay Spiros, and Gregory Solow, who will complete their two-year terms in August 2022. Continuing members are Faith Hoffman, Alison Ricker, Anne Salsich, Julie Weir, Crystal Willer (and her replacement, to be decided) and Tracy Sutherland (ex officio). Here is a listing of everyone who has served thus far.

All Libraries staff should please respond to this brief poll by noon on Wednesday, April 27th.  If you have not served recently, your name will remain under consideration for inclusion on Library Council unless you respond No.*

As a reminder, Council membership is intended to reflect a balance of public and technical services expertise and to ensure that a range of libraries, departments, and employee groups are represented.  More about Library Council’s mission, responsibilities, organization, and structure are available in the Library Council folder that all library staff can access in Google Drive.

Here’s a recap of some of our activities and accomplishments:

  • Passed new student worker pay rate guidance
  • Rescheduled Council meeting times to allow for wider accessibility
  • Investigated and pursued new forms of staff appreciation
  • Named and assisted in the introduction of the Library Lowdown
  • Revisited the onboarding process for new Library Council members to assure a smoother transition

You can find more details about the recent work of Library Council in the group’s publicly-available minutes. Please consider bringing your talents and interests to the group! A slate of potential new members will be reviewed at an upcoming Library Council meeting.

Thank you in advance for your interest and willingness to serve! Please let any member of the Transition Committee (Alonso, Lindsey, Tim, Kay, or Greg) know if you have any questions.

*The composition of Library Council is laid out in the Library Council Organization and Structure document, linked above. You may be contacted by the Transition Committee to serve regardless of your response if there is insufficient volunteer interest.

Reminder: Members needed for 2022 Metcalf Committee!

Good afternoon everyone,

This is a reminder that Library Council is looking to convene the 2022 Metcalf Committee, to continue the tradition of providing this great event for our graduating student workers!

The Metcalf Luncheon is where we show our appreciation for the students that make our library system function, but it needs staff members to make that happen. Please consider joining this group to give our student workers a proper sendoff!! If you are interested in participating in this group, please reply to this form by the end of the day on Friday, 4/22.

Thank you for your efforts and your interest!*

*(Also, if you replied in the first day or so of the survey being available, please write and let me know that you did. The responses were accidentally being collected anonymously for the first day, so I don’t know who you are. Apologies!)
