Faculty Development: An Overview for Librarians

What is faculty development? Who are faculty developers and what do they do? And how should librarians be involved in faculty development? This workshop, intended for academic librarians, will provide an overview of faculty development as a field and the role of faculty developers. In addition, the presenter will explore the ways that librarians have been, and could be, engaged in faculty development. Participants will leave with ideas for how they can increase their involvement in faculty development.

Teaching Information Literacy through Faculty Development

Some librarians have argued that adopting a “teach the teachers” or “faculty-focused” approach to information literacy would allow librarians to build more scalable and sustainable information literacy programs. This workshop, intended for academic librarians, will provide an overview of the faculty-focused model to information literacy and explore the benefits and concerns associated with this approach. Participants will leave with ideas and resources to start or expand information literacy-focused faculty development initiatives.
